Frijoles Canyon in the Jemez Mountains northwest of Santa Fe has a magnificent Anasazi Indian site named after a renowned archaeologist who explored the area in the early 1900's. Bandelier offers cave dwellings carved into volcanic ash cliffs, ceremonial kivas, ancient Indian village ruins, early Anasazi masonry architecture, waterfalls, spectacular overlooks, and a small archeological museum in the visitor's center. On route we will stop at the San Ildefonso Pueblo to link both the past to present development of Pueblo Indian culture. (5 or 8 hrs)
